Welcome to Woodland Dreams
Do you like to take walks or maybe a stroll on the beach? My inspiration for Woodland Dreams, comes from one of my nature walks. Sometimes instead of a written journal with writing and sketches , I like to create a fiber journal to hold my treasures found on these walks. A visual, tactile fiber art journal.
Sign up for Woodland Dreams and learn:
- How to create very textured individual pages, and bind them together with a simple binding technique
- How to use vintage textiles and laces in a fiber journal
- How to combine paper and fabric together to create a collage
- How to choose the right types of paint, ink, and dyes for a mixed media fiber journal
- How to alter embellishments to look vintage by gilding
- How to create simple but attractive embroidery stitches to attach and adorn pages
- How to gel print on fabric to create your own designs
- How to create a new technique for trapping fibers and delicate papers to a page.
- How to create pockets and niches to hold your precious collections
A note: I have used woodland colors. You may choose a bright color palette and a different collection to inspire you. It’s all good!
Collections and Memories
Gilding
Gilding is a decorative technique for applying a thin gold layer to an object. In this class we will add transfer foils to add an aged effect on metal jewelry findings, leaves, and more.
Texture
Texture adds visual and tactile characteristics to a surface. In this class we will add texture with mixed media layers of paper, fabric, laces and more.
Stitching
Stitching can add so much interest and color to fiber art. In this class we will use stitching to add both decorative details, and as a utility to hold pages and the spine together. New to slow stitching? It will be covered. The choice is yours. You can use both hand stitching or a sewing machine. Or both as I have done.
Paper and Fabric
In this course you will learn how to create a multi layered, Mixed Media Fiber Art Journal. Full of layering, stitching, painting, printing, and dying techniques for both fabric and paper. Create a very textured book from scratch, using both old and new materials, and binding ideas. A visual way to display your collections
Another great class from Rebekah
In this class I will show you how I create, layer, and assemble what I call Strips and Fragments from paper and fabric. I will go over techniques I use for hand painting and dying fabric. We will be stamping with both rubber and foam stamps. I'll show you what inks and paints I like to use.
We will also discuss protecting fragile papers to use in collage. Why make them? How I choose, and why I use the materials that I do. I will talk about adhesives and machine versus hand stitching. I will give no-sew options as well.
Hello, I am Rebekah Meier
I am a mixed media collage artist, author, teacher, and product designer. I work with fabric, fiber, paper, paint (both watercolor and acrylic), embroidery, and very often combine them all together to create my art. I'm not a perfectionist, but work until I'm satisfied. I have a love of vintage things and incorporate them into my work.
I live in northern Illinois, love music, and have a sweet little Pomeranian named Mia.
